Just Transitions: Heritage Education for Climate Adaptation

(JT-HECA)

How can we adapt and transition heritage conservation education to address the growing impacts of climate change and the need for more diverse voices to contribute in setting priorities for adaptation?

Just Transitions: Heritage Education for Climate Adaptation (JTHECA) is an initiative led by three Canadian university academic members of the Climate Heritage Network: Athabasca University, Carleton University, and Université de Montréal. Events being organized will be led by these universities in partnership with different organizations.

JTHECA EVENTS

The first event on Knowledge Areas for Climate Adaptation took place on June 3-4, 2022.

The next event in the series, Cultural Voices from Arts and Heritage AT COP 27 on February 11, 2023, focused on lessons learned from COP27 that can inform and transform programming, training, and capacity building in arts and heritage to tackle the global challenge of climate change.

A follow up event on Teaching and Learning about Climate Action in the Heritage Sector and Beyond took place on October 14, 2023. The session panelists discussed “What is happening in the Heritage Sector?” and “Learning from outside the Heritage Sector.”
